How Should I Store My Blank Labels? February 8, 2010

Not everyone is going to be able to use all their labels right away. One of the benefits of being able to print your own labels is to be able to have them ready whenever you need them. But if you aren’t using them all at once, what is the best way to store them?

DeskTop Labels recommends that all labels be kept in their plastic bag until time of printing. The prolonged exposure to air with many types of label sheets may result in curling. If labels do curl, it may cause problems with the alignment when printing them. Another way to reduce the curling of your labels to feed the label sheets manually or straight feed.

The recommended storage time for labels is one year after purchase.

Desktop Labels™ is doing its part to stay green.

Out of the 251 million tons of trash generated by Americans per year, more than one-third comes from paper! That’s enough for 700 pounds of paper waste per American each year!

But what can we do? Almost all of business information is stored on paper. We need paper to communicate—whether it’s through letters, advertisement, packaging, labels, or more. Paper is a necessity.

With 100% PCW labels, Desktop Labels™ has found a guilt-free way for you to print all the labels you need and be at ease with your carbon footprint.

100% post-consumer waste labels are made from recycled paper. Using PCW labels means using labels that did not require more trees to be cut down, more limited space being used for it to rot, or more methane gas released into the atmosphere as the paper decomposes or burns in a landfill.

Using PCW labels does not mean using lower-quality labels. In fact, all nine styles of PCW labels offered from Desktop Labels™ are permanent adhesives and provide a 92% brightness which makes them equal in appearance to traditional products.

100% PCW labels make it easy to do something for the environment.

Blank Labels for Lip Balm February 2, 2010

For those of you that make your own lip balm, lotion, face wash, etc, labeling your products can sent you apart from other companies. One of the products that is most important to have a high quality label on it is lip balm. This is important because this is one of the few products we carry around in our purses all the time and use in public.

Having an eye catching product label will get people to talk about your item (well..so will great smelling and good consistency). This in turn will help to improve your business, with no marketing and no expenses on your part.

Printing your labels in-house is also beneficial in that you have complete control. Want to add a picture or personalize it for a gift? No problem. You do not have this flexibility when you out source your printing.

Remember, the first thing a customer sees, is your product label.

DeskTop Labels™ will send you enough samples to test your labels. To prevent wasted printing of label sheets, we recommend that you print on plain paper first to make sure your template is lining up properly. When you are satisfied that the template lines up properly, print on your label samples. You might even want to trace the label pattern on plain paper to produce a paper copy.

For more extensive label testing, we recommend you purchase a box or two. We have express (overnight, two day) shipping options available.

Label Templates January 21, 2010

What is a Label Template?

In labeling, a template is the hand drawn outline that you use to align the print within each label. Many of our labels have equivalent templates numbers found in most software programs. For instance, in Microsoft Word, the label template 5160 is a match to DeskTop Labels™ mailing label 3330.

How do I make custom templates in Microsoft Word?

First, you will need a properly functioning laser, or inkjet printer.

Most computers today come preloaded with Microsoft Office. This package offers all you need to quickly create great looking labels.

Open “Microsoft Word”

Scroll from the “tools” menu and select “Envelopes & Labels” Click on the “labels” tab. You  will see a button that reads “options”. Click the “options” button. You will see a table with 4 digit labeling templates to choose from. Many DeskTop Labels products cross reference one of these 4 digit Avery template numbers listed in the table. For instance,  DeskTop Labels™ 3330 labels corresponds the template number 5160.

When you single click on each template number the “height,” “width,” and “page size” will appear in a new window

Double click on the specific template number you wish to use. The window with a blank text box will appear. Type in your label text into the text box. Don’t worry about fonts or text size yet. Click on the “New Document” button. Your text should magically appear formatted on labels across  the page.

Highlight the entire page. You can then change the font, style, or size of your print. Make sure that the type is not bigger than the label. If part of the type overlaps the edge of the label, it will get cut off during printing.

If you are creating labels that are different in text, you may use the “tab” key on the keyboard to go from one label to another, typing in different info on each label.

How Do I Know Which Label Template to Use?

DeskTop Labels™ numbering system works with most Avery® Label templates. Our last two numbers in our stock number tell you how many labels there are per sheet: i.e. our 3330 has 30 labels per sheet, our 8850 has 50 labels per sheet, etc.

Use this quick reference on how to match up our stock numbers with the Avery® template numbering system.

How would you describe the label adhesive? January 15, 2010

Posted by desktoplabels in Uncategorized.
add a comment

The Repositionable/Removable Labels possess a relatively tacky adhesive for a removable label. Expect the label to stick like a permanent label to many surfaces, including coated plastic surfaces. The great thing about the adhesive is the ability to take the label off cleanly, with no residue. However, when left on paper surfaces, for extended periods of time, these labels may exhibit some permanent qualities. It is important to always test these labels on your surface you are applying them to.
